Requested Creations.

I have been requested to make a few things. First a pair of crocheted slippers like the crazy colored ones I made a while back. Second, a wallet out of this checkered fabric that looks kinda like country curtains to me. Third (and hardest), a pair of fingerless mitts out of the *sigh* bamboo yarn my sweet upstream pal sent me.
The first mitt is just over half finished, the slippers have to wait till I can find the right yarn and the wallet will likely get worked on tomorrow.
On top of these things are the things I have taken upon myself. Most of them happily.
There are two sets of puppy legwarmers in progress. There are multiple things to be hemmed or altered in minor ways. There is the gift I made for someone that is %95 finished, just some beading to be finished. The final package to send to my downstream pal , even though she has said she was satisfied with the packages she received. ( I still want to send out these few things anyways.)
Oh, and there has been major upheaval at my house. One of my presents was a re-organization of the house. I can now sit at my computer and look at my creative supplies without getting up. More incentive for me to get things made. I will leave the *planned* projects to another post.

Foot, and how it's Broken.

So about 6 months ago I twisted my foot in a really bad way then about a month and a half after that I twisted it again. Thinking that these were "just" sprains I wrapped and stayed off it as much as possible (ha ha) but the pain didn't magically go away and the funky lump on the outside of my foot made me curious. Finally going to the doctor about a month and a half ago I was given an opinion. An evulsion fracture on the inside of my foot. An x-ray was scheduled. The multitude of x-rays seemed to verify this opinion but an MRI was scheduled for further information. MRI was done and an appointment was scheduled with a podiatrist. The podiatrist looked at the x-rays, got a confused look and went to find the MRI results. After looking at those he came in and told me that I had broken my heel bone all the way through and that normally these kinds of breaks require surgery and screws in the foot. Notice I said normally. He told me that somehow my heel bone had been healing correctly and that hopefully we could get away with just immobilizing my foot for about a month. Thus I sit here typing away with my foot in a medieval torture device that is giving me horrid cramps in my calf. Yes, a BOOT. Why, I ask, do I need this beastly thing when I have been healing properly with what I had been doing. Because there is a possibility that I would step on a dust mote and re-break it. Because it makes hunny feel better. Because that crazy lady that I love so much got to laugh and think loudly that she told me so. Because I have to try to do things the right way once in a while.
But yeah, It's broken.

Internet and laziness

Since the past week has been made up of almost no Internet access I will have a few posts to put up soon. Hopefully within a couple of days. The topics are as follows... Foot, and how it's broken. The Presents I Loved. The *NOT* a sock. The Scarf Debacle and how it looked when over. Requested creations. Projects to come.
Yes there are a few pictures to go with these random seeming titles. I am also hoping to put together something I call "stitch patterns and their applications. I want to do an instructional series of posts on what you can use the basic stitches for and projects for practice. First up will likely be the garter stitch dish scrubber and a few variations thereof.
The house got re-arranged and I might be able to get to some of the million and one sewing projects that have been backing up. For now, I am just glad to be able to look at Ravelry and read the things that have been going on in everybody elses lives. More after I get some sleep.

What was I saying?

20 minutes ago I find out that I need to have 8 scarves made by 3:00 monday. Wish me luck and if I make it I will take pictures.
**edit: total is nine. 1 1/2 finished.**

Help?

I was gifted a sheep in a bag and I need to find some resources on how to clean and card wool. If any of you fine souls has a few links for me I would appreciate them greatly. I really want to play with it and see if I can teach myself how to use a drop spindle. Such a purty color. (=***

Attack Of the Monkeys!

Yesterday was the day of the MONKEYS. The day started with a plan. I planned to finish one thing that I had been working on for a couple of days so as to have it ready to give as a christmas present. Instead of doing that I made a pair of slipper socks, because I realized that I had worn a hole in the bottom of one of the last set.

Then I decided to start putting together a different present, a book that I am making for a dear friend. She knows about it so I can safely post without spoiling it. I got the pages cut, folded, marked punched and sewn together and got the outside of the covers finished...Then I put it down because the next step involves picking a button. Hard thing that.
Not long after that the final package from My pal arrived. Val, It was awesome. The adorable kitten was *immediately* absconded with and she slept with it last night.
I was insanely tempted to make things with the Yarn in this box. he hand spun, hand dyed alpaca merino is the most beeeeeeautiful shade of blue. So pretty it almost hurts my eyes to look at. And sooooft. But the *3* skeins of bamboo were nearly in bed with me last night. Outside cashmere I don't think I have held anything so pettable and squooshable.

There is a little kit to knit a little sheep...I maight just have to do this because, though she didn't know it, I was once associated with a local group that contains a few Scotsmen. Many jokes and good memories. (I wonder if I could dye the wool green?)
Then to the heart of the matter. COFFEE and a mug and an awesome cup cozy! The mug, while not entirely in my taste range (though very cool for a holiday theme), will definately be kept for my mother to use. She is over for coffee often and appreciates a good mug. I don't know if I will be sharing the three coffee sample sizes though. I might have to hide them. The mug cozy is happily being used on my all time favorite coffee mug, a jelly jar mug.
After the Joy was had at the opening of a *super* present I went on to work on 4 other things I am working on for various people that i can't put pictures up of yet.In between all this there was a phone call from the school we have been trying to get the Creature into. She will be starting in january and I can't tell her yet because she will get MAJORLY excited and ask fifteen million times a day if school is tomorrow. Then I *knit* this thing that I will choose to call a trivet. I will be felting it today to see if it does what I want it to. The colors kind of remind me of chocolate mint icecream...I think I'll keep it, maybe, if it turns out how I think.
While doing this I was thinking about some of the other crafts that I should be working on and putting up on etsy. Being all kinds of happy because of the 3 orders I have mailed out. Yippee.
Then there was the making of dinner. I decided to make Chicken cordon bleu and scalloped potatos, from scratch. So I did. And The Creature was a *big* help. I let her layer the potato slices in the pan while I was prepping the chicken and she did a wonderful job. After this there was the brushing of the teeth and the stories (she reads me bedtime stories now) and the *many* songs till she passed out.
Cleaning up dinner and trying to find the happy relaxed place before I go to sleep, I finally got some more work done on the thing I started my day wanting to work on. Now I am only a few rows from finished....Think I can finish it today without the monkeys in my head spoiling it?

And I finally got around to it...

I have updated my Etsy shop. Yes, I know. Took me long enough. I blame the hives for the delay. I may even have more stuff to go up tomorrow if I am lucky. I have spent the morning taking pictures of things for the shop so I will be trying to spend what is left of the afternoon taking pictures of things to post here. Like the finished scarf for hunny and the *huge* fingerless mitts I made for him. Some pictures of the Small Creature in her new apron might happen too. Then again I might just pass out watching one of the new movies hunny got for x-mas at work. Love the Indiana Jones set and have been wanting The Sound Of Music for a while. The Usual suspects and Philadelphia are both good movies, just not things I would choose for light entertainment. I also hope to put up a list of the links I have found over the last couple of weeks. Some of the craft links are just awesome and there are many things I would love to try and make. Have a happy day y'all

Look ma, No hives.

So for the first time this week I didn't wake up with something swollen and itchy. I might be actually recovering. Due to this and the making of several last minute present things there will not be an update to my store until friday night at the earliest. I will have a few "new things as well as a couple more Ear hats going up. Yayayayayayayay. My first sale happened. I am so thrilled to think that something I made will be going to someone else as a present. Kinda feel like I got a present too. I might have more "content" later but right now I am just reveling in the fact that I can type without hurting.

12/10/07

Just a few words.

I will not be putting up more stuff on my etsy site till I am finished with this current medical issue.
HIVES suck! I am now officially allergic to shellfish. Waking up covered from head to foot with hives is NOT the way to start a good week. I'll post more when the backs of my hands aren't covered with spots.

12/5/07

Store update and a frog.

I just finished updating the etsy listings... More odd stuff that came from my hands. If you happen to go by there and have any comments about how I could make it better, PLEASE let me know. It is also the best way to see what I have been working on. Almost everything I have made for the last month has gone up there.
Another gratuitous frog.

I loves me the ribbits

Rambling and whining.

So, if I whine and say "It's not fair" enough, will the Goblin King come and take *me* away to the Escher castle?
FUZZY purple (almost raspberry) hat for Mom... To go with the scarf that I was too lazy to get a picture of.
No, that is not the toe of a sock! It is an experiment in dollhouse furniture. No, I do not have the other sock on a second set of needles. It is a knot I am trying to untangle.
But seriously, you can't really consider something made with double strands of acrylic worsted weight on size 8 dpns with a total of 36 stitches per round to be a sock. More of an experiment in trying to figure out why people would spend *weeks* making socks. As an *instant gratification* type I tend toward quick crochet projects, but I had to try it out... Might be something to try again in a few years. I'll let ya'll know *if* I finish them.
Next post will be more pictures than I should post... Be warned.

11/26/07

Update and more.

Etsy store updated again... (pimping myself, I have no shame.) http://mystarfalling.etsy.com
I will be putting up pictures of my small creature "helping" with T-day and might even have one of the lost tooth grin. If I have a brain I will try to get up some pictures of what I am actually working on. The sock had to die but everything else (and more) is still in progress. I might actually get near my sewing machine this afternoon to make that thing for my pal...Bad me. Hoping she won't be mad at me for being horribly late due to MESS. I can crochet because I keep my yarn next to my desk in my room...Sewing is a trial. There are also some serious issues going on with hunny's work and some people that I have recently met. Grumble. There are reasons I don't leave the house much.
A huge and public THANK YOU to lalabob for making that thing and is there some way I can pay you back?
More when the brain is better caffienated.

11/22/07

Urp, scuse me...

Yeah, I'm thankful. Whats it to ya.
Some of the things that make it so I can wake up and not go maniacally homicidal.
My Daughter... For every day she gives me one smile.
My Mother... For only saying "I told you so" once in a while.
My Husband... Glad I didn't settle for second best and glad that when the best came around I knew what to do. And his mom for being just a little NUTS. (=
My Brother (and his wife)... He's off doing his duty to keep us all free, and I am jealous cause he gets to be in Germany for a year.
My Uncle and Auncle... For just being the coolest.
My house... Pit though it may be some days, it is still mine.
*My pretty pretty stove*... Gas and black enamel. Loverly, and it does what I tell it to.
*My laundry machines*... Never realized how much I appreciate them till I had to do a months laundry at $1.50 to wash and dry a single load.
*My sewing machines*... I can't hand sew worth a darn, pun intended.
My town... I may hate it with a passion sometimes but the fact that there is no random gunfire and a low rate of homicide makes it home.
My Friend(s)... The one that has listened to the "mack truck make-out" whine. The new ones that are becoming more and more worth my time. The ones that I spend *hours* a day reading about on-line.
My Yarn obsession... I really would be in the nut house if I didn't fondle the fiber. It is my method of mental relaxation since I don't drink more than a couple single drinks a year and drugs are way too distracting and expensive. Can't have things taking my attention from the yarn, I mean child and housework.
My new favorite doctor... She READ MY FILE before offering me random prescriptions to fix me. Whee, all for doctors that can read.
COFFEE, COFFEE, COFFEE.
I am thankful for so many little things as well as the big ones that I am surprised I don't explode from thankfulness, Oh wait... That's the turkey.

11/19/07

Ambitious much...

Announcement 1... I just put up a few more things on my Etsy page. Please go look. http://Mystarfalling.etsy.com

Announcement 2... Ha, pictures.

A crocheted twisted cable scarf that I have been working on. Loverly wool. Hoping to felt it a bit once it is finished to tighten up the cables. Done with front and back post double crochet. If you want me to lay out the "pattern" let me know.

A cotton dish scrubbie that I have been designing also with front/back post doubles. I will be typing this up for the benefit of the "cloth crew" within a week-ish.

A huge scarf that I started last night to use some cotton that had been yelling at me. The first section is solid black held together with grey. The second section is a variegated with the grey and the third section will be white. I have about decided that it will go to someone special that lives with "Shades of Grey" which is what I have decided to call this.

Uh, so I am trying to not let the sock kill me. I am stuck in the middle of the heel for now but when it is done I will have warm tootsies. Using baby yarn so as to not KILL the beautiful Opal that My pal sent me recently. Practice...

And the knitting. Working on a 1x1 ribbed scarf in grey wool for hunny. I am about half way done with it.
On top of all this I am heading towards the cleaning of the craft table because I HAVE to get in there withing the week to make my DS pal her pressies. I have the plan, I have the materials and tools I just don't have the clear space in front of my sewing machine. Small creature sometimes gets her craft on at my table and forgets to clean it up...The pile ensues.
More soon, I hope.

11/13/07

New pattern coming soon...and stuff.

So, I am working out issues with a skein of cotton and front and back post double crochet. I made a couple of dish scrubbies in junk acrylic and found one that works really nicely. Now I am trying a variation on the theme with cotton cause I had it on hand...I was going to make a bath puff for hunny but that didn't work out so well. I am going to put up a picture or three and the text of the pattern once it is done.
Now the "stuff"
Tonight will be the second meeting of a local group of fiber enthusiasts. I will be bringing my works in progress and enough other stuff to demonstrate with. Those that are coming should bring their projects and questions. Once things have gotten going we can discuss what I will need to post for edification.
Mouse still on the loose but hopefully not for long.
Two packages will be going out today... One to my downstream pal and one to my***upstream*** pal. I found out that my upstream pal has been having difficulty getting any communication from her upstream and feel like sending her a hug. The person ignoring her should have more *&$%#^@& care for the obligations. I have been happily spoiled by someone that has been given next to no reason to play her part. I truly am blessed by that. (and even if I had guessed who she was, I would keep my mouth shut...) Hopefully, she will read this and know how much I appreciate her efforts.
MORE STUFF...
Why do I seem to be running out of yarn? I have yarn....really. I just can't seem to figure out what it wants to be right now. I guess there will be more Watchum Pockets coming than I had thought....Soon I will be down to the *good* stuff and then I will suffer. The nagging feeling that I should be making something "better" with the yarn.
OK, done with my whining for now.

11/12/07

AAAAAAARGH!

I want to find the hole that they are coming in and plug it! This time there was a mousie in my pantry. Luckily I had already used the stuff that was important to make things for pal type people but the little beastie ATE my last bag of reeses peanut butter chips, ALL of my daughters favorite oatmeal and my bags of easy cook pasta with sauce. So, I had to throw away money and clean out the cabinets on top of having to set traps. I hate having to set traps. I hate having furry invaders.
Oh, yeah. There is supposed to be some fiber content to my rantings. Working on... Heather grey k1p1 rib scarf for hunny, who has finally succumbed to my griping about him not wearing a scarf. Scarf for (might be me, might be my mom...We'll see when it's done) in a twisted
quasi-cable pattern that I am improv-ing from front post and back post double crochet. Watchum Pockets from random acrylics to be added to the storefront. Finishings on other things to go there too...Bags with buttons and such.
Other than being too busy cleaning up mouse poo to take decent pictures, That's the life and times of me for now....Wait though, the weather might change.

11/11/07

The insanity has begun.

I have started listing things on ETSY. No, really. In order to support my fiber addiction I am really trying to sell some of my stuff. Anyone that wants to look it over and give me comments about how to make it better are welcome. mystarfalling.etsy.com

Crazy/Cool Lady and her Contest

http://shutupimcounting.blogspot.com/2007/11/333-contest-few-of-my-favorite-things.html
This deserves a post all on it's own. Cass is the coolest klutz I have so far had opportunity to read. I admire the way she keeps going after losing her mind as well as many things needed for running a life.

I put up a Creative Commons license at the bottom of the page. I'll figure out how to put it where I want it later.

Six Years and counting

Six years ago today my dearest Hunny made me a slightly less dis-honest woman by standing in front of a judge and saying that he agreed to put up with me on a legally binding basis. I knew the moment I saw him that there was something to be said for a beard. I haven't doubted his commitment, loyalty or devotion to this family once since the night he got down on his knees in the freezing cold on my mothers porch because he said he wanted to "do it right". I will admit there have been some days where murder was in the air but it was a loving kind of murder. This man has been able to put up with me without multiple trips to the mental ward or jail and for some unknown reason seems to want to keep doing it. I found the right kind of crazy and I hope it lasts another 60 years.

10/31/07

Questions and a pattern.

First. I have been invited to join a local group of ladies for a fiber related intro. I would like to introduce them to the LOVELY people that I have met through this medium and would like some assistance in figuring out how to make a "sidebar" that contains links. I have no clue how to go about creating it properly and have at least a dozen people I would like to have easier acess to. Any help would be appreciated.
Now, on to the pattern. (cc)

To introduce you all to "Twisted and Broken" I present this fuzzy image.
It is a fingerless mitt with a broken cable cuff.
I used some lovely wool that was sent to me by my SP. It is 100% wool from Valley Yarns. In my design attempt I used size 10 (us) double pointed needles and an odd circular that floats around my craft stuff. I think it is a size 3, but something to hold the cables and eventually the thumb stitches. One skein is enough to make a pair and I will be trying many other yarns on this pattern, though I will likely bring the needles down a size.
To start, using your favorite method cast on 36. If using circular needles definately put in a marker of some type.
Base row: Knit 2 Purl 2 across row
(counting now)
Row 1: Knit 2 through the back of the stitch and purl 2 through the back of the stitch.
Rows 2,3,4 : repeat row 1
Row 5: hold the first 2 stitches to the front, knit the next two. Return the held stitches to the needle and purl them. Repeat this to the end of the round.
This completes the first set of broken cables. Repeat rows 1 through 5 twice more and the cuff portion is complete.( to count, rows 6 through 15)
Row 16: knit through the back.
Rows 17,18,19 : repeat row 16
Row 20: Knit 17 through the back, make 1 by knitting through the front then the back. Make 1 again then knit 17 through the back. This is where the thumb increases begin.
Row 21: ktb 17 make 1 ktb 2 make 1 ktb 17
Row 22: ktb 17 make 1 ktb 4 make 1 ktb 17
Row 23: ktb 17 make 1 ktb 6 make 1 ktb 17
Row 24: ktb 17 make 1 ktb 8 make 1 ktb 17
Row 25: ktb 17 make 1 ktb 10 make 1 ktb 17
Row 26: ktb 17 make 1 ktb 12 make 1 ktb 17
Row 27: ktb 48
rows 28 through 36, ktb
Row 37: ktb 18, set aside 12 in keeper or spare circular, ktb 18
Row 38: ktb 36
Rows 39, 40, 41: repeat row 38
Row 42: ktb 1 ptb (through the back) 1 36
Rows 43, 44, 45: repeat row 42
Row 46: Loosely bind off 36
Thumb: Pick ip your held back 12 stitches and tie in your yarn. (I suggest holding a tail of at least 6 inches so you can tie up the small gap when you are weaving in the tails at the end.)
Row 1 thumb: ktb
Rows 2,3,4: ktb
Row 5: ktb 1, ptb 1.
Row 6: repeat row 5
Row 7: LOOSELY bind off thumb stitches.
Weave in your tails and begin again.
They are made in such a way that you wear in the different hands. I suggest making them on a size 8 if you have petite hands and 9 for medium size and 10 for larger. Mine are done on a 10 so I am going to try to felt them a mite to make them fit more snugly.
This pattern is my own design and I would love to see pictures of things made form it but please, no commercial distribution and I might want to make some money off it someday.
Any comments, corrections and links to FO's are welcome.

Stuff and trubble.

A mixed bag of posting bits.
First, Reading material. Spider Robinson is an awesome writer. I started and finished Time Pressure today. I have read anything I could get my hands on by him and somehow had missed this one. Definately worth the reading.
Second, Crafty stuff was put on short hiatus due to a leak that occurred between the bathroom wall and the craft room/Hunny's hidey hole. Some things were rescued, others were not. I should not have collected so much paper stuff without proper storage (tupperware).
Third, I now have camera capability and will be posting pictures to both this and to my ravelry account... Mystarfalling... In conjunction I will be looking for people to help me test a pattern for knit fingerless mitts. Anyone reading this is welcome to comment and get me more motivated to type it up.
Thank you and that will be all for the time being.

Weekend update. Pictures

My pal sent me an awesome package. In this package were all the fixins for an obsession start up. A BOOK....A crochet book about SOCKS!!! So now I can join in all the reindeer games and wrap my noggin around socks with the rest of the fiber world.

Booooooook. Loves me some books. I collect vintage needlecraft books and have recently gotten some new crochet and knitting books but this is awesome. I might even be able to make a few of these patterns. Now, if I can just manage to make a pair...2 that look alike. A minor miracle.

Yarn stuffs. She sent me a skein of some luscious Opal in a color called petticoat. Yes, there is some of the dreaded pink in it but I think I might be able to live with it. The colors combine to make a mighty morphin power sock! Truely, a lovely color. I think my daughter would love socks form this. Left to my own devices it might have been turned into a bunch of little wallets.

She also sent a nifty set of stitch markers that my creature took off with before the borrowed camera could be used and a lovely bamboo hook in a size F. Now I have a back-up just incase I loose the first one. And I could even carry it with me to the store and such. Never too many hooks, I say.
I have some other new pictures to put up, btu that will have to wait just a bit. I had to acknowledge my pal and her truly thoughtful gift.

Bizzare week.

I have spent the last week doing things backwards. I Was trying to make an outfit to go out in and did the hard part first. Then I decided to not to use that... Made a skirt and bodice, wore the skirt but left the bodice at home. I haven't gotten my but to the post office yet and Ireeeeeealy want to send this box out sooner rather than later. I will definately send it out tomorrow. After I have a night with more than 3 hours of sleep. Dancing was fun and I didn't hurt myself much. My entire abdominal area hurts just a little but that is to be expected. I got to see some old friends and some new ones and meet a few entertaining charachters. The guy that looked like a short Fabio was entertaining, The guy in the Bowler was funny and Main Guy on stage was sweet(even gave me a hug). I have finished the nonagon and won't be doing another for a while. I have ripped out the scarf for hunny and haven't gotten any more done on his hat. My Mom's scarf is languishing in my desk and I can't seem to focus on anything for more than a minute. Sleep deprivation can do that I hear.
No, I haven't gotten my camera's software loaded in part because it seems the cd drives in this "new" tower do not like me. No workie without headache and multiple head smackins.
((off topic, Has anyone else come to think of ravelry as a fiber artist vampire?))
When I do get it all together I *WILL* put up some more recent pictures both here and there. I am computer slacking right now but I have many excuses, I mean reasons.
On the 5 things I am thankful for this lovely Friday.
1. Hunny has started making me laugh again.
2. My small one is too smart (yes, trouble brewing, but I would rather have her be too smart than not able to question things.)
3. Corsets. (don't ask unless you actually want to know)
4. Places where my sense of humor is considered "normal"
5. Halloween is coming soon. The day after will mark the 6th solid year that hunny has survived my every attempt at driving him to the bin.
Kay. Done for now, I go lie down again.

10/15/07

I'm a bad poster.

So, there are still no pictures for me to put up. I hope you all (5) can bear with me for another few days. I have gotten to some of my music and have been thinking really hard about getting my hooks and needles together for the ravelry organization thing. Really, thinking as hard as I can. I have to get some sewing done this week and there is still the mousie to catch. Because of dear mousie I had to replace 2 of my patterns and I HATE to pay full price for patterns. I know, It supports the people that design them. I would rather pay less at the thrift store for something that has already been loved... That way I help support the local charities that the thrift store donates to. I don't mind fudging a bit on a pattern that has been cut out and sometimes the notes written on the package are amusing or even helpful. Ok, I ramble. I am making a vest and skirt combo and I am trying to decide if I want to make the bodysuit to go under it. I have 4 different patterns for them and it would be *another* experiment. I ahven't finished my morning coffee yet, so I will stop abusing my keyboard for a bit an dcome back when I am more cohesively choerent. Uh, understandable and stuff.

10/10/07

Ahem.

That thing came today. The one that I can't take full advantage of due to my inability to post pictures....I can't exactly list all of my projects and stash and needle/hooks without pictures now can I... Thats right all, Ravelry. I be the Mommastormy forever and ever without end. No, not a link but my excitement. And now I have some other lovely news. Went to the Doctor today. Explained the litany of owies. So I probably do not have bursitis in my hip, knee and ankle... I did however have to go get dosed with x-rays. 3 shots of my ankle and 5 of my neck. I may have to begin physical therapy and many other lovely things. I was also offered anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication along with optional mood "stabilizers" to give me some help with the ADD/HD symptoms that I have been medicating with coffee and Mt. Dew for years. Another subject... My poor Puter. It has been replaced and I will have to spend some serious time replacing and transferring information that is vital to my mental health. Music... Pictures... More music. (=
As always, I look forward to reading the trials and tribulations of my friends the craft world. Wishing you the muse and the time to craft.

Short but worth it. Contest Content.

http://alicejean.blogspot.com/2007/10/yarn-contest.html
Love to send out the word for other fiber artists. Lady does wonderful color work, Now If I win the contest I may be able to rave about her yarn too. (= Just a hope.

10/8/07

Oh, before I forget....

I will be starting an Etsy store. Attempting to feed my fiber addiction by selling off my random crafty bits... The objects not the parts I use. (=

I am Alive.

Really. My computer may need to have it's innards yanked out and replaced with shiny new bits. I can live with that. My yarn however, has been attacking me. The list of UFO's is growing. I seem to be unable to not start something new every time I feel a little down. I have a list... Wanna see?
The Hunny Hat (Knit)
Scarf for Mom (Crochet
Grey Triangle (Crochet)
Variegated blue Triangle (Knit)
Nonagon (Crochet)
Bear hat and bag set (Crochet)
Fingerless mitts/ Twisted and Broken (Knit)
FOUR PURSES (Sewing)
A sewn book for my SP
Mending and other stichery
On top of the lovely housework that I let myself in for almost 6 years ago and the chasing around of the small creature that calls me mommy. No this is not a complete list because my brain is melting and I have only had one cup of coffee today.
I will be getting back into posting more frequently and attempt to get some things finished before the world stops rotating. Someday I might even get medicated... What a happy thought.

Issues.

I have limited time to post today as Mycomputer is toasted and I had to wrestle control of an operating one from my child seeing as it is hers... Yes My 5 year old has her own computer. Kay, so my problems are such. My bad ankle has been causing me to overcompensate and mess up the rest of the leg. I havd pulled or tweaked a nerve in my right shoulder which means I am unable to sleep on my right, thus causing me to sleep like dog poo. I have been avoiding venting onto the keyboard due to the fact that unless one of my readers happens to be a physician and in the area there is not much I could ask help with. I am also trying to quit that nasty habit that I have to go outside for... I am a crabby person. I hope to be able to work on a few things soon but for now I have to settle for snuggling my yarn. I might even get stubborn enough to go to the doctor here soon. Thank you for your support. (= And the reminder that there are actually people out there that read my drivel. Everybody have a better day than me, to at least justify my self-pity. =P

Sometimes...

When you feel like crap, it helps to do something completely different. Today I started an *inspiration* book. I had made the book yesterday and didn't know what I was going to use it for. This morning I spent some time with my small one ripping up old smithsonian and better homes magazines for all the "pretty" pictures. She had her pile and I had mine. She has a book I had made for her a while ago so this afternoon we cut and trimmed and glued. I will admit it was a whole lot more fun than it could have been. I had a period of obsessively collecting scrapping tools and the only ones I used were the paper trimmer and glue sticks. La Vie I guess. I might do more with that stuff tomorrow, gotta use what I have right. Maybe if I have some brains I'll put up a picture or three. And I might even rrmrmber to post a couple of extra super awesome links... Craftypod is superkeenoneatorific.

This is what happens.

When my child asks me to make her something. She tells me the colors, gives me a "design" and picks the notions. I told her I didn't know if I could do it and she did that thing. She looked at me with complete confidence and said "mommy, you can make anything" so of course, this is what I made.

There are days.

When I find myself in desparate need of amusement. Then I get a whack in the head from Muse lady....She weilding the metaphorical 2x4.

Now, I need a little help finishing him up. I can add any or all of these options. Tell me what you think. a)Tail b)Neck strap c) Wrist strap/ Belt loop d) Feet/ arms
When you tell me which you like please tell me why so I can see more humor in a demonic purse.

Snippet of amusement

Woman badges. I wanna grow up to be a woman, can I have the badges then? http://stabbed.wordpress.com/

It seems...

That I have been sadly remiss in posting about any of the *other* crafts that I do. If there is a craft, I have been interested in it. Many I have wanted to try but haven't for logistic reasons. I enjoy anything to do with paper and have a love of origami. I have recently taught myself the coptic method of binding books. I have never made my own paper but someday I will. I have done caligraphy and scrapbooking. There have been paints and chalk in my life. I play with clay. Mainly Polymer clay but I have tried other things. The reason I have stuck to polymer clay is the small creature running around loves to *help*. I will try to get some pictures of things I have done with it soon. Mostly canes and covering things. I also sew...Sometimes I use a pattern. I have done quilting and might do it again. I have an interest in woodworking but not the space or tools to realy get into it. I have made many kinds of jewelry both metal and beaded. I have made toys for my child out of whatever was at hand...Beads and macrame rope made one of her favorites. I can work with leather and sinew.
I have not learned how to spin. No glass work either. I am trying to learn felting and new things about yarn.
If there are any questions I will answer to the best of my ability and I would adore helping someone learn something new. The best way to learn is to try and teach another.

Heavenly Blue Hug

Grace, Thank you so much

A side note

While I don't ascribe to any particular "Faith" I really appreciate a good *Idea*.

A picture of something a friend wants to make. Finally putting it somewhere you can get to it...(=

Hmm, I have always been a bit amused by wrought iron and this is even cooler because it is painted green. I wonder what kind of paint they used to withstand the heat? It is a heater grate after all.

Yes, I hate the outdoors in places with too many trees, but some green growing things are pretty to me. Love the delicate look of ferns. And when they have that dark reddish tint I think they are even prettier. While these don't have that, they are kinda cool to look at.

Also to start a theme thing.
5 For Friday.
1. I have too many things in progress... But, better than being bored out of my mind.
2. My house is a mess... But, my family is safe.
3. My friends are not near to me....But, I have a cell phone and the internet.
4. I am stir crazy... But, I will get to go out tonight and maybe tomorrow.
5. I can't knit a shawl(like Grace)... But, I can crochet lace and miniature hamsters when I want to.
All bad things have a good side, even if you have to be a sarcastic A** to see it.

Time eaters.

I appologize for the spottiness of my recent posts. I have been dealing with craft blockage and a sick 6'2" grumpy bear. He caught something that has kept him home for three days now and feeling icky. This means that he spent the majority of the time in the "craft" room because that is where his computer is. This leads to me not being able to do much sewing or any of the other crafts that are stationed there. I also have been blocked by the loveliness of the new yarn that I got from JoAnn online. I have fear of messing it up. this leads me to panic and start 8 new projects with other yarns so as to avoid messing up the "good" stuff.
Argh. On another note, I have actually designed a *KNIT* pattern that kinda rocks. I am trying to follow my own directions to see if the second one will come out as cool as the first. If so I will be posting my very own fingerless glove pattern. Because of the stitches and cuff pattern I have already named it...."Twisted and Broken" whatcha think, is it me....(=
More when I don't feel like chewing off my own head. Oh yeah, and pictures.

I did what?

Four of the five blue ribbon winners. Yes, I made them and went out and put them in the fair. I actively participated in this community. Go, me. I was stunned at the fact that I won ANYTHING let alone 5 blue, 5 red and 2 white ribbons. Color my flabbergasted.
I will post other pictures later. Have to do house type things for a while now.

Worst EVER.

This is the worst thing I have ever done with yarn. It was a hat. It fit me and all. I did something silly and assumed the yarn was of too high an acrylic content to shrink much. BAD me. Those funky pokey bits are the chenille yarn that didn't shrink at all, of course. Now the hat is too small and it looks like it has a disease. It goes away.

Bwahahahaha.

I got presents... Wheee.

Awesome magazine that my small creature immediately pointed out a dozen things she wants me to make.

Wheeeee. Yarn. I don't think I have felt anything quite like the debbie bliss cotton/angora. The wool/alpaca will likely go to make something for my mother and the solid wool I might just get to keep for me.

Finally, a needle and hook gauge. It is too cool. The card is very cute as well.

Ah, the dishcloths. I don't actually use them but they are gorgeous. I make scrubbies out of acrylic yarn. But...My daughter immediately grabbed the basketweave one and told me it was her new bath cloth. How could I refuse.
All in all I believe I have an AWESOME secret pal.

If you have to ask....

You probably don't want to know. (=

If there is any real interest, email me and I will tell you how much of your soul you will owe me.

Pictures of stuff.

More pictures to come, I promise.
Maybe even some of the ribbons I won.

First, A headband and matching cell phone bag that I had a picture of posted before I lost my mind.

My daughters flower headband.

A small pouch (think deck of cards) made out of cotton.

Finally.... The bag of holes. It won a first place ribbon at the county fair this past weekend. I am a little concerned at the state of crafting here...(=
